This morning: reading practice with Coco, breakfast, the Felix drop-off at daycare and the Coco run to school. Shopping for food to fulfill catering orders, a bit of procrastination. Some winter pajama shopping, a coffee at the deli were my friend Paolo works. A conversation another Ciao another Tuesday…
Then a stroll to the bank to cash cheques and try to fix my ATM card that’s not been working. No line, a person serves me, a few procedures to see what’s going on with my account and then a woman in bank uniform explodes out of her clear door office and into the main room:
“IT’S A GIRL EVERYBODY ! IT’S A GIRL!”
Tears invade her face melting her mascara, her skin turns blotchy red with excitement and her mouth a blend of smiles and tremors:
“MY DAUGHTER JUST HAD A GIRL, A BABY GIRL!”
It’s 10.42am on a Tuesday, I just cashed a cheque, a woman just became a grandmother, her daughter a mother and a baby a reality. A moment of joy, relief, a moment of dreams fulfilled and new ones in sight, an extraordinary instant that crossed my ordinary day.
I am home making soup: Borlotti beans, vegetables and a few herbs from my garden, wholesome elements that will combine and become dinner for my family. Another Tuesday has come with its chores, it’s beans it’s moments and it’s dreams … Life Soup.
